iPhone OS 4.0 - Predictions and Expectations

It finally came. The news i was expecting since January, and that caused me to delay doing any maintenance restore to my iPhone for months. iPhone OS 4.0 will be presented Thursday the 8th, and this is what i expect:

• Some kind of multitasking, even if limited.
• New notification system.
• Unified inbox for email.
• Refreshed Springboard UI
• New system wide multitouch gestures
• Printing support
• Global documents storage area
• FM radio app
• Access to calendar events in the SDK
• Xbox Live/PSN style gaming network
• IM integration with contacts

What i also would like to see:

• Wifi sync for podcasts
• Widgets, at least on the lockscreen
• Tasks app
• Quick access to wifi, bluetooth and 3G settings
• Better battery life
• Less restrictions in the SDK

It´s clear expectations are really high. However, this time i think there´s a big chance most of this will really happen, because it has to - now Apple has real competition, and the current iPhone UI is showing it´s age.

One more thing - has i´ve been in the beta test program for one iPhone app, i have my iPhone´s UDID registered to a dev´s account. This means i will be able to install the beta builds of OS 4.0, so stay tunned!

Hockey Nations 2010 - finally an Ice Hockey game for iPhone

There are several good quality football games for iPhone (Real Football, X2 Football and FIFA 2009). Same goes for american football. There´s also a decent basketball game (NBA 2009). However, so far ice hockey has been sadly absent. Hockey Nations 2010 is bound to to make us happy.

Justin.tv app available for iPhone: football fans rejoice

Justin.tv could be just one more video site. However, the fact some nice people use it to broadcast live tv football (the real one) matches, make it a must for any fan. And now it´s available for the iPhone. Get it here.

UCWEB for iPhone now in English - why wait for Opera?

One of today´s big news is that Opera has submited their Opera Mini browser to the iPhone Appstore. However, there is alot of doubt about Apple letting this go. Will iPhone users be forever limited to Safari and it´s clones has browsing options? Not really, because yesterday something was released on Cydia that pretty much does the same has Opera Mini, the UCWEB browser!

Some of you might remember me mentioning UCWEB has the only non-webkit based browser for iPhone, back in September. Problem was, it had several limitations, namely being totally in chinese, and suffering from the Great Firewall of China censorship.

Well, this new version is perfectly translated to english, and it´s proxy based compression seems not to be affected by any chinese censorship. Choose the zoom mode, and you have a full alternative to Safari, much faster and much less data intensive, perfect for people with limited data plans and/or situations with slow data connections (gprs/edge)
